At Superior Door and Glass Services Insulated Glass or thromopane glasses are no problem for us and we provide at least a 10 year limited warranty on our IGUs which can be upgraded to 20 years. We can replace your Insulated Glass without having to replace the window frames. Insulated Glass is basically two (and sometimes three) pieces of glass separated by an air space and sealed together to prevent moisture from entering the space. The desiccant which is sealed inside the spacer removes any moisture within the unit and locks it away. When a unit falls it looses it’s seal allowing moisture inside which overwhelms the desiccant. Once this happens when changing temperatures causes this moisture to condensate inside the unit. Once you see this moisture or fogging your IGU is done and needs replacement. Most window manufactures design their windows for the glass to be replaced.
What causes a unit to fall in the first place one may ask?
To measure for pricing we only need a rough size on the window panes, whether they have grids or not, and what the window frame is made of (wood, metal, vinyl, etc.) to give a quote. To prevent fogging both panes of glass or the insulated unit itself must be replaced with a new warrantied unit. Unfortunately there is no way to reseal just one piece of glass in the window.
